The software was first developed by one man, back in 2002. At the time, another network was formed which was called Gnutella network. It was rather popular at the time but was quite inefficient and very slow at downloading files, and as such wasn’t great for users. He decided that another network needed to be created which would be the complete opposite to this and would finally break away from this network, so that’s what he did. He called this Ares Galaxy and it was the first step in becoming what it is today. You have to remember that to start with, it really wasn’t very popular so the number of files in it was rather limited.
Once others had noticed what this developer had been doing, they tried to replicate it. Two more P2P networks were released shortly after ours which didn’t take off at all due to their lack of experience in this field. The developer of our tool had used P2P networks for so long and knew what he was doing when programming one, which is something that the others lacked. He continued to work on the foundations to give the software a solid backbone that he knew everyone could rely on and he definitely was right. There were a few different features that were tested which weren’t very useful but in the end, all of the bugs were fixed and more useful features were added.
There were a few problems along the way, though. In the early development, users were having a lot of problems actually connecting to the network. This was a massive problem as it meant some people couldn’t download files and some couldn’t upload them, which again limited the network. Eventually, these problems were sorted out and you can see the end result in our free download. Another problem encountered was the developer receiving a letter ordering that he take down Ares due to the fact that people could share files illegally. This is when he decided to make our it completely open source so that anyone could share it and develop it even without him, which was an excellent decision as proven.
