In the previous article on our blog, we discussed how Ares download speeds are affected and providing you with more knowledge on the subject, all so you have a better idea of what you’re actually installing when you press the download button on our website. In this article, we’re going to be talking about the GUI and how it can be used to help guide you through the software on a daily basis. We’re going to be telling you about how it works and the best ways of getting around it, so read on if you want to know more.
A lot of software packages try to add tons of features into a small space and have to use complicated navigation systems to get around it. Sure, it might be good to have more features but what about actually finding them? It could be a nightmare having to search through everything just to find what you’re looking for, so we try to take a different approach – we take a step back and thinks “What do users actually want?” and the simple answer to this is – lots of features which are easy to find. It does this remarkably well and we’ll talk about it now.
The best method of organising the features (many of which we’ve discussed on our website) was a tabular system we found. Some people have asked us why a navigation menu at the top isn’t built in, and this is because there really is no point, what we have works great and the majority of our users love it. So, what do we mean when we say there’s a tabular system involved? Well we basically mean that each of the features that you’re going to need regularly are all split up into separate windows so that you can simply switch between them whenever you need them. Need to use the media player? Want to search for a file? Check existing transfers? All of these can be done through a single click of a button.
So, now you know about the tabular system, what about the actual tabs that are included? There’s a tab just for the internet browser implemented in the software, which can be really helpful if you need to browse the internet while using the software as it means you won’t have to go out of it and use another tool instead, it’s all about saving time and Ares Galaxy certainly does that in many ways, as you’ll find out when you install it onto your system and get a feel about what it has to offer for you.
When you use the program to obtain files that you’re wanting no matter what type of data it is, they’ll automatically be added to the library so that you can continue to find them long after the transfer has been completed, this is one of the most popular things in the tool that most people love about it. There’s a tab just for this feature so that no matter where you are, you can always head straight back into it. It’s quick, it’s easy and it just works for everyone. All of your files are neatly organised here, too.
We’ve mentioned earlier on in the article that there’s a media player built into it too which will talk about in a bit more detail here. If you’re downloading media files such as music and video, the chances are you’d really like to find out what you’re actually downloading before it finishes because you can never be sure if it’s the genuine thing and you could waste a lot of bandwidth on something you don’t actually want. The media player comes in handy here because you can view completed files as well as ones that are still downloading, it’s an excellent way of previewing things and there’s also a tab for it in the GUI.
Searching for files is obviously going to be one of the most important features that you’ll use too, it’s essential because there will be points during the day where you’ll need something on your computer and this client will be the first place you turn. You’ll head into the search feature and enter all of the relevant information the network can use to identify what you’re looking for. This is in the middle of the tabular GUI which makes it the easiest to access considering you’ll probably spend most of your time there. It’s good to know that no matter what you’re looking for, it’ll always be only a few clicks of your mouse away.
Of course, after you’ve started the search for a download in the tool it’s a good idea to watch how the transfers are going so that you’re ready to use them as soon as they’ve been completed. This is why you need the transfer tab which is also built into the GUI. It’ll show you how many files are being transferred, as well as all of the information you need about them – so for example, the names, the file sizes and the download progress bar. These are all there for your benefit that you can view at whatever time you want and will stay there until you remove each file.
There’s also an in-built chat system which will allow you to communicate with both new and old friends directly in the software. It’s probably the least visited tab but it’s still used and is still helpful never the less. You simply go into the chat and either join or create the channel you want to communicate with people with and you’re ready to go. You’re going to need to choose some settings such as the nickname you use but other than that it really is straightforward!
The final menu in the GUI is the control panel. This is exactly as it states – the place you can go to manage all of your settings and choices when it comes to how it will manipulate files, how transfers will go ahead and how the general interface will look. You can alter so many different aspects of the software it really is amazing, but you have to install it onto your system to really see what we’re talking about. This menu is also split up into many different sections so it’s important that you take a look and get familiar with this area as well.
In conclusion, after reading this article you should now have a much better understanding about how the GUI looks and works. Whenever you want to access a feature, you simply go into it and choose whichever tab you want. The feature you’re looking for will be displayed right there and then in front of you at the click of 1 button so it’s a great idea to go ahead and get started no. You won’t regret it, you’re missing out on the great downloads and other features you could be enjoying.
