Saving Internet Radio to Disk

If you listen to the radio quite often then you may have come across occasions where you want to record what you’re hearing so you can listen back to it a bit later on. This isn’t illegal and is perfectly normal, especially if there’s a song you really like and want to listen to it again. It’s difficult to do with an ordinary radio station but is very easy when it comes to internet radio, so in this article we’re going to be telling you how you can use Ares Galaxy to save internet radio to disk so you can play it back whenever you want to.

The first thing we want to talk about is playing the radio in the first place. You are going to need a .pls file for this, which you may or may not know how to get hold of. You should be able to find these on any internet radio website, you just need to go onto one of the websites where the stream is being played and choose to save it to a file rather than playing it through your browser. It should be a .pls file if you’ve done this correctly. You also need to make sure that .pls files are associated with this application, which you can do by right-clicking the file, choosing “Open With” and then selecting this program and setting it as the default.

There are two different ways of achieving this if you want to do so. There are dedicated pieces of software that can rip streams from the internet for you, although the majority of these aren’t free and will require a lot more technical knowledge to actually do them. It will also clog up your system and use up more disk space than is necessary. This is something you probably don’t want to get involved with, so instead you can choose to use this tool which has an in-built feature to do it. You’re going to need to open a playlist file as we’ve described above so that the audio is playing as you want to. You’ll then have to follow the final steps below to get what you’re looking for.

When the audio is playing, you need to click on the radio button which you should see when you’re in the internet radio part of the program (in the media player). Having done this, you should see something appear called “Save to Disk”. This is the feature we’ve been talking about and needs to be activated, so hover over it with your mouse and then click on the Activate button. This will be done instantly for you and data will automatically be saved, but remember that this is using up disk space so you may not want it enabled permanently. Tracks will automatically be split up for you too so that you won’t need to do it yourself, making it very easy to listen to certain songs that are played on the radio rather than the entire thing.

In conclusion, saving internet radio tracks to your hard drive is something that is incredibly easy to do. Once you’ve got the options set up, you’ll just need to press the activate button in the media player in the software to make it safe all of the data that is received from the radio station you’ve selected. It doesn’t get much more simple than this, within just minutes you can playback the audio you’ve recorded from the radio and don’t need any technical knowledge to do it. If you haven’t done so already, we highly recommend that you install it onto your system so you can benefit from these features.
