Uninstalling Ares
We hope that you’ll never need to uninstall Ares Galaxy from your system but if there ever comes a point where you just don’t want the piece of software installed on your machine, you’re going to need to know how to do it. There are multiple different ways of doing so, we’re going to explain all of them in this article so that you’re fully aware of all of your options.
Method 1 – Add/Remove Programs
The vast majority of people choose to use this method whenever they want to uninstall any piece of software, it should work with any. It’s incredibly simple to do as well as long as you’re on either Windows Vista or 7, if you’re on an older version the process will be very similar but not exactly the same. To do this, you need to go into Start –> Control Panel and then into “Programs and Features”. You should then see an option called “Uninstall a Program”. By clicking this, you’ll see a list of all of the pieces of software you have installed. Find ours from the list and you should be able to remove it from there.
Method 2 – Own Uninstaller
If you’d like to use the program’s own installer then you can go through this method, again it’s very simple to do. You need to go into Start –> All Programs and then find Ares on the list. You’ll see a few different ones to select, including opening the software itself, instructions and documentation on how to use it as well as an uninstaller. If you click on this one, a tool will open which will allow you to choose different things, such as removing personal information as well as all of the files you’ve downloaded from the P2P network. The uninstall process will then begin.
Method 3 – Deleting Files
Note that whilst we’re telling you about this method, we recommend that you don’t do it because it doesn’t completely get rid of it and will leave you with half of a program. If you browse your hard drive by going into Computer and then into C:/Program Files, you’ll probably see a folder called “Ares” which stores the vast majority of the data required for it to execute. You could in theory just delete this folder and then empty your recycle bin but this isn’t a good idea because some of the data is actually stored elsewhere in temporary directories that you may not be aware of. Only the uninstaller will be able to get rid of everything related to the program.
In conclusion, if you’ve read the guide we’ve published you should now know how to completely uninstall the file sharing application if you want to do so. It’s a good idea to stick to either the first or the second method because these are much more reliable and will get the job done properly, whereas the third method really isn’t that great. The majority of people won’t ever need to do this though because of the great features it gives to everyone free of charge, but at least you know how to do it just in case the situation arises where it has to be done.
