About the Library
The library feature is one of the tool's most popular features and has been included since one of the very first versions. It sets it apart from the rest of the file sharing applications that are available to download at the moment because of the way it stores data for you, it's a tool that significantly reduces the amount of time it takes to find the data you're looking for after a transfer has been completed.
What does it do?
Ares Galaxy allows you to transfer files to and from your computer. However, it does nothing to tell you how you can use these files, you're entirely responsible for that part of the process. It can be difficult to keep all of your downloads organised, especially if you're like the majority of people who use it who regularly download media weekly, sometimes even daily. The Windows operating system doesn't do a lot to help, so this steps in to provide a library of all of the files you've ever downloaded and then organises them for you so that you can easily find them whenever you want to. You can simply refer back to it at any time when you need something, which saves you from having to use Explorer to manually find what you're looking for.
How can I add files?
This is the part that everyone gets confused about, they install the application, go into the library and then struggle to find how they can actually add files into it. We don't blame people for this, after all there is no button you can press to do it, the closest you get is "Add File to Playlist". To actually add it to the library, though, it's much simpler than anyone could imagine. You really don't have to do anything at all, whenever you start a file transfer it will automatically be added for you. If you don't believe us, you can go and test it out for yourself. You may have to wait until the transfer has completed, though, as the program sorts files based on the information stored in each individual set of data.
Can files be organized as I want?
The software gives you multiple different ways of grouping your data, mainly depending on the type of data you're talking about.
How do I remove files from it?
Removing files from your library is very easy if this is what you want to do. However, it's something that we wouldn't recommend, we'll give you our reasoning. When you remove it it's very difficult to add it back again, which means if you change your mind later on it could take some time to get it to recognise the file. It really doesn't take up any space or clutter up the software by keeping it in anyway! For those of you who are sure you want to remove it, you can do so by going into the relevant tab, selecting the file in question from it and then pressing the trash can icon in the navigation bar which should say "Delete File". A confirmation window will be displayed to make sure you're certain about what you want to do, and after that the job will be done for you.
What views are available?
You can choose your library to be grouped by either regular view or virtual view.
How do I re-scan my library?
If you've manually updated something in the folder that Ares Galaxy saves to then you may want to force the program to re-scan your library for any changes. You could have placed files in there, removed them or even altered some of the data, either way the changes won't be reflected until you do this because of the way the caching system works. Don't worry though, it isn't complicated and can be done within 10 seconds. Go into the library tab and then press the button at the end of the navigation bar which should say "Rescan your library" in it. Once you've pressed this button, you'll have to wait a small period of time (depending on the size of your library) while it recalculates everything and after that you should find that it has been completed.
