Groovy For OpenOffice

If you’re a fan of the Groovy programming language, this is certainly an extension that you’ll be happy with. This extension allows you to create Open Office macros using this language which is something you wouldn’t normally be able to do. Some people prefer to uses languages like this instead of the default one built into the office suite and that’s fine, you’ll actually be able to add a lot of unique features and build them much easier with the Groovy for OpenOffice extension we’re going to talk about in this article.

The first introduction we should make is about macros. To advanced users and programmers especially, this may be something that is very familiar. However, the average user probably won’t have come across them before and there’s nothing to be ashamed about! Basically, a macro is built to automate any tasks that you want inside of the office package, whether this be to automatically change different things in your spreadsheets or reports to something a lot more advanced. A programming language is required to make the software do this automatically, though, and this is where Groovy for OpenOffice comes into it.

Groovy is a programming language built for the Java Virtual Machine which does mean to use it, the latest version of Java will have to be installed onto every computer that you need your macro to run on. This shouldn’t be a problem, though, because of how popular Java is these days, you might not even realise that you already have it installed! It’s a very dynamic language that has a lot of flexibility and once you know how to do it, you should have no problems building a macro specifically for it. It’s actually one of the easiest and least strict languages you can use. Having said that, this is not something for everyone and will probably only be used by programmers themselves rather than the average user or businessman.

When you install Groovy For OpenOffice onto your system, you’ll have access to a lot of different guides which will show you examples of different macros and explain them so that you’ll be able to build anything you require. Do give it time, though, as you won’t be an expert in an hour. Everything you need is included in this download so you shouldn’t have to worry about browsing the web desperately searching for something to help you. We highly recommend that you use our Groovy For OpenOffice download and if you don’t already have the office suite installed, what are you waiting for?
